Social Media Week – Washington, DC

February 16th, 2012

DC gets Techy!

Did you know it’s Social Media Week, not only in DC but in major cities around the globe?  People may not know this but the DC area is home to an amazing tech community with new media marketing and advertising firms and just a few miles outside, the Dulles Technology Corridor hosts a number of great tech companies including a few fortune 500’s.

Do you find yourself driving into the capital a lot during this year’s Social Media Week?

Are you having trouble finding coins for the many meters around town?  If so try parking mobile.  Washington, DC has done a wonderful job installing the Park Mobile service for its visitors and locals (http://us.parkmobile.com/) at metered parking spots throughout the capital – If you have not yet tried, it’s pretty amazing!

To give you the run down on Social Media Week, it’s pretty much a week packed with “mostly” free seminars, events and online forums that educate, excite and enroll professionals and those wanting to learn more in Social Media and ways to maximize your usage.  Events take place all over the city, too wide spread to walk and pretty costly to cab or metro.  If I had a friend that was coming into the city for #SMWDC events during this beautiful week I would highly suggest they grab a few tickets on the Open Top Sightseeing USA/Big Bus Tour and hop on and off all over the Capital at the many great events.  And, in their downtime in-between seminars I’d tell them to check out the Newseum and see what media used to be like, back in the olden days, before mobile phones and computers and people actually used something called a Typewriter!  You could Google the Newseum and an open top sightseeing bus tour in DC or you could look into the NOW Pass that actually includes admission to the Newseum as well as a 2-day pass on the Open Top Sightseeing USA/ Big Bus Tour.  You save money on these two attractions and as a bonus the NOW Pass also includes admission to the International Spy Museum as well as unlimited savings to restaurants, shops and attractions throughout the Washington area.
